How to design a forum skin in Photoshop
In this Photoshop tutorial, I'm going to teach you how to design a modern
looking forum skin.
- Open a new document with a width of 700 pixels and a height of 900 - 1400 (This depends on the size of your board)
With the background layer selected, Right Click and select Layer from background. With the layer still selected, fill it with
#e7e7e7. Go to the Blending Options and apply these settings. You can download a pack of patterns from
here.
- Make a big big rectangle from the top to bottom and side to side. Try and keep it about 20-25 pixels from the edge in all places.
Apply these settings to the rectangle.
You should be here by now.
- Select the color #f96f00 as your foreground color. Make a small rectangle in the upper left corner of your box. Fill it with your foreground color.
You should have this.
Apply these settings.
Now, make a selection of that part by Holding the "Control" Key and clicking the layers thumbnail. Go to Select >> Modify >> Contract >> 2 Pixels
Now press Control + Shift + I and press delete. This time, press Control + Shift + I. and go to Select >> Modify >> Expand >> 2 Pixels. Make a new layer
and go to Edit >> Stroke Set it to these settings.
Deselect. You should have this.
- Go ahead and add some text and you are done with that part.
- Time for the tabs. Make a rectangle about this big. You can fill it with any colour you would like.
Now, cut off the corner of the rectangle using your favorite selection tool and pressing delete. I just used the polygon lasso
tool and held shift to get a straight cut.
Apply these settings.
- We now want to do the same thing with the tab as we did the header. Make a selection of that part by Holding the "Control" Key and clicking the layers thumbnail.
- Add text and duplicate the layers and you should have this.
